The Best Turf Varieties for Campbelltown, Camden and Narellan

Atlas Turf offers a wide range of turf varieties especially suited to the climate and growing conditions in your area.

Scientific research and careful selection means that we can produce grass varieties that cope with intense full summer sun and yet also cope well with shade.

Our turf varieties include:

These are all really hardy grasses but each has particular characteristics that make them ideal for specific conditions and settings.

Shade can be a real problem for grass in the winter months especially if your property is surrounded by tall trees or other large houses.

Sir Walter Buffalo or Sapphire Buffalo are two of the best performing grass varieties in shady conditions.

Sapphire Buffalo is especially popular with its soft narrow leaves and will thrive in as little as three hours of winter sunlight.

Although Sir Walter and Sapphire both perform well in sunlight they do produce a reasonable amount of thatch.

If this is an issue and you have a really sunny backyard you might prefer a variety such as Zoysia. But if frosts are common you would be better off with Sir Walter.

Drought resistance is also a common concern for Australian lawns but the Palmetto variety offers excellent drought recovery growth. Palmetto also has excellent frost tolerance.

Atlas Turf is dedicated to producing top quality turf with drought-resistant, weed resistant, shade tolerant hardy grass varieties.

What type of grass is best in my backyard?

The Blue Mountains experiences a wide range of climatic conditions and so you should put careful thought into where your new turf will go.

Think about the following requirements:

  • Drought tolerance
  • Shade tolerance
  • Frost resistance
  • Weed, disease, and pest insect resistance
  • Mowing requirements
  • Hardiness and resistance to damage

The cooler winter temperatures and possibility of snow in the Blue Mountains means the colour of the grass in winter could be a major consideration for you.

Shade tolerance may also be very important.

Palmetto has good winter colour but doesn’t do so well in the shade.

On the other hand, Sapphire has very high wear and tear resistance and has a finer leaf than the other buffalo varieties.

All the Atlas Turf varieties are premium quality grass strains and you should be able to find a variety that ticks all your boxes and turns not only your backyard green but your neighbours green with envy.
