FIND OUTSir Walter Soft Leaf Buffalo is the best variety of lawn grass available for most home lawns right throughout Australia where the desire is to match the following criteria:
As the market demand for soft leaf buffalo has gathered momentum so also has the number of varieties.
Some are genuine soft leaf buffaloes, others tend to give the impression that they are really common hard buffaloes that underwent a name change overnight. Sir Walter is the only Australian born and bred soft leaf buffalo lawn.
Compared to other grass types such as Kikuyu or Couch, and other Buffalo grasses, Sir Walter is bulletproof.
Novice gardeners can easily maintain it and avid greenkeepers can develop into the best lawn on the block.
Your Sir Walter Buffalo lawn will stay green in winter in most areas provided it is fertilised well in autumn and not mown too low prior to winter.
Where Sir Walter is in a shade position it should be kept longer at all times to allow more leaf growth to compensate for the lack of sunlight, and should be watered less frequently.
In spring your Sir Walter lawn (as with any lawn) should be mown very low (except in shady areas) and fertilised.
This removes the thatch that has built up in your lawn and allows new stolon growth. This practice has the same affect as top dressing, but is easier and allows your existing lawn height to be maintained.
